Hillsboro Students’ Productive Summer

Senior Emmy Bray just returned from a summer spent in New England thanks to her work in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics, where she was a winner of the prestigious Dean’s List Award at the 2017 World Championship in Houston, TX.  Emmy was a sponsored participant in the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Frontiers program where she studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as well as Creative Writing. She also was an honored guest at the first-ever FIRST Festival of Champions in Manchester, NH. She and fellow award winners were guests of FIRST founder Dean Kamen, and were given tours of Dean’s DEKA company, MIT, and had a sponsored lunch from Yale University. Congratulations Emmy! We look forward to the upcoming robotics season for all of our FIRST robotics teams!

Rising sophomore Hannah Bray participated in the UAB summer Creative Writing program, already earning college credit for her work. Hannah has won multiple national competition awards for her writing, including winning the Alabama Poetry Society’s Call and Response competition, as well as winning a Silver Key, Gold Keys, and a national Gold Medal from the Scholastics Arts and Writing competition.
