Meet Our Team

Dr. Maria Montessori:

“Our aim is not only to make the child understand, and still less force him to memorize, but so to touch his imagination as to enthuse him to his innermost core.”

Meghan Edwards, Business Director

Meghan Edwards keeps the business side of our school humming. She has an eye for detail which makes her a meticulous record keeper and a stickler for policy adherence. Her compassionate spirit enriches everyone around her. To Meghan, Hillsboro is a second family and she loves using her gifts to help grow and strengthen the school.

Dorothy Ewing, Operations Director

Dorothy Ewing began as a parent volunteer by giving tours and marketing Hillsboro to surrounding communities.  She brings well over a decade of management experience to our Operations Director position. Her background in management and sales has aided in our growing enrollment and, as a self-proclaimed people fanatic, she loves getting to know our current and prospective families.

Patrick Schrader, Education Director/ Upper Elementary Teacher

Patrick Schrader not only teaches our Elementary students, but he helps train new Montessori guides through the Center for Guided Montessori Studies. His wealth of Montessori teaching knowledge and years of experience has served our school for the last two years and enriches us in a leadership capacity by serving as our Education Director.  Patrick believes that there is more than one way to teach and that you never stop teaching.

Katie Scruggs, Lower Elementary Teacher

Katie Scruggs is a licensed Elementary teacher and comes to us with 5 years of experience.  Her creativity and adaptive style help her reach students at their level. Katie enjoys teaching the lower elementary ages and knows that not every child learns in the same way or at the same time. As a lifelong learner herself, she has jumped right into studying Montessori Fundamentals from the Center for Guided Montessori Studies.

Ben Albers, Secondary Teacher

Ben Albers’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning never fails to create an exciting lesson.  He teaches our Secondary class to explore, ask questions and dig in (sometimes literally when in the garden!). When a student struggles with a concept, his creativity helps him find new ways to engage.

Raji Thopay, Toddler Teacher

Raji Thopay is like family to our Toddler Class. She shows her students the same love and attention they get at home.  Her class is full of energy and curiosity, and she loves finding new ways to keep them moving and learning.

Samima Hassan, Primary Teacher

Samima Hassan leads our Primary Class with unwavering kindness. She sees in her students the people they will become and never gives up on them. Samima’s dedication to her class drives her continuing education in Montessori as she completes her second certification. She loves teaching and using the child’s interests to make connections with their learning.

Tiffany Long, Primary Teacher’s Aide

Tiffany Long comes to us with 9 years of preschool experience and she has fallen in love with the Montessori Philosophy. She jumped right in by completing her first course in Montessori Fundamentals at the Early Childhood Level. Tiffany’s personality echoes the same peace, patience and warmth of our Primary Classroom. She loves watching the joy on a child’s face when they finish a challenge or make a connection.

Elizabeth Patrick, Teacher’s Aide/ Aftercare Coordinator

Elizabeth Patrick couldn’t deny her gift for teaching when her daughter was born 28 years ago. She has a natural gift for relating to children and her fun is infectious. She will be the first to tell you that, on the inside, she’s a six year old. Her students love her Friday afternoon dance parties and creative art projects.  Elizabeth engages students in such a way that they tend to lean in when she gives a lesson, and when it’s over, she might challenge them to a dance off!

Areli Tarango, Spanish Teacher

Areli Tarango teaches Spanish to our Toddlers through 12th grade! Her immersive lessons are fun and silly with the Toddler and Primary students, interesting and interactive with the Elementary students, and conversational with our Secondary students. Areli makes learning Spanish an adventure by playing games, singing songs and incorporating puppets. She teaches the Secondary students how to make her signature salsa and tacos!
